For the past few years, Michael and I have always taken Valentine's Day as an excuse to go out to dinner (kid-free!...and usually at Marx Wine bar...) and maybe a few drinks somewhere too. But that typically is the extent of our Valentine's Day celebration. Well, a few weeks ago, Michael had told me to "not plan anything" on Valentine's day, or the day after. Hmmm....so Valentines day came, and Miss Addi and I went about our day as usual (work for me, Parent's Day Out for Addi) - except Addi seemed to be just a bit cuter than usual. I mean, those pigtails and little Valentine's outfit...she was LOVING that this was a special day! She even got a fun valentine present before we headed out the door.
Addi is really into saying, "Cheessseee" right now...so I just kept taking pictures. She was loving the camera, throwing some attitude my way, and I swear she was switching poses here and there.
Addi was ready to go with her little valentines in hand for her teachers (a pinterest find!) and set for a fun Valentine's Day ahead...(a lot has sure changed since last year's Valentine's Day! So fun to compare)
After work, around 2pm, we dropped Addi off at my parent's house (for the night!!) and said goodbye...
And we headed to Downtown Minneapolis for a much needed (and super fun!) night away. Michael planned the entire getaway, from booking a hotel, to reservations at the restaurant, to setting up child care for Addi, and even making sure Sydney was taken care of on Friday (my cousin's little girl who I watch every Friday). To say I was impressed would be an understatement!.
After checking into our hotel, we walked around town a little bit and then headed to Zelos for an amazing dinner! This restaurant only makes/sells local food and they make their own pasta, sauces, etc. from all local and natural products. It. Was. Amazing! I had this salad and then possibly the best Chicken parmigiana that I've ever had (which I didn't get a picture of...bummer).
Definitely a restaurant that I would highly recommend!! We were stuffed to the brim and happy customers by the time we were finished...
Next on our Valentine's Date night agenda was to go see a musical. Before we headed to the New Century Theater, we made a pit stop at Macy's to pick up one of their cupcakes that my cousin Holly recommended to me. If you've never had one...go get one!! Right now. Absolutely incredible!! I got the German chocolate one, and it's pretty much all I've been able to think of since eating it.
Onto the Musical...we went and saw the musical "Reefer Madness". This musical was an over-dramatized musical comedy (based off a movie from the 50's) on the negative affects of marijuana.
Pretty ridiculous, yet very entertaining! The best way to describe it is perhaps in the words of the director, when he said, "I had to figure out that line that goes too far, and then step over it once in awhile". ha. Yep, that pretty much sums it up and that is all I will say about that;) Here is our reaction to this show...
After the play, we headed back to our hotel for the night, and got to indulge in some midnight room service!! We enjoyed a great night (without a child to care for and/or wake us up!!)
I slept in until 9:20am the next morning!!! 9:20!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been over 18 months since I have even come close to sleeping in that late! It. Felt. Amazing. We also enjoyed breakfast at an incredible restaurant Cosi in the IDS tower that morning. Again, if you've never been...go!!
Shortly after breakfast, we headed back to Stillwater to pick up Addi, who had a great night with Grandma!! (well...other than puking in the middle of the night and coughing a lot - but that's another story and my mom handled it like a champ! You would think she's had some experience in this field or something:) ) Definitely an amazing Valentine's day...and props to the Hubby for pulling it all off!!!
Our weekend continued with the theme of spending it with those we love. I got a surprise text from my cousin Jenny telling me her and her daughter Claire were going to come up to the cities for the weekend and they wanted to spend a day with us!! A whole Day!!!! So Saturday around noon, we packed up our girls and headed to the Children's Museum.
The girls played their little hearts out, and it's so fun to see them both growing up and being able to interact more with each other. Our daughters are just over 7 months apart, which is fitting considering Jenny and I grew up together and are just 4 months apart. We can only hope our daughters have 1/2 the relationship that we grew up having with each other.
What a fun day we had...and the girls crashed the second we got in the car! (Of course, we stretched nap time a little bit, so we were very happy that they did crash!)
What a great Saturday we had spending the day with our cousins. And this little Claire...she is as cute as can be!
We finished out our weekend on Sunday having a great family dinner with my parents, grandma, nephew, and a couple more of my cousins, Abbie and Marcus! What a great weekend to spend with those we love! Happy Valentine's Day...remember to ALWAYS appreciate those you love and enjoy the time you have together!
