January 2012: Eating "Solids"

One thing (out of many!) that people don't tell you about parenting, is there there are no "real" answers. Everyone has an opinion, and every sort of expert ends their advice with "you just have to do what's best for your child". humph.

So...at our 4 month check up, our doctor said, "well, you can start solids (and by solids, she meant rice cereal) any time now. Watch for the signs and start whenever you feel ready." Well, thanks, doc. That's helpful. So, I researched online, read books, googled "feeding baby for the first time", and scouted out baby food aisles at multiple different stores. Everything I read said you can start feeding your child rice cereal as early as 4 months, and as late as 6 months. So, we chose the middle road...and started her just after she turned 5 months.

I won't even get into the logistics of it all (how much should we feed her? what time of day? when do we add vegetables or fruits or another meal?), but we introduced Adelyn to a very runny version of rice cereal this past weekend. After figuring out what the heck to do with this mush that was now in her mouth, she started to have fun with it...and really liked it!

Yum Yum!! I wish we would have gotten more of her facial expressions on camera at first, but she definitely enjoyed her first tasting of something other than breast milk and formula.

Not sure this will even do justice, but here's a short clip of how much fun she had:)
