My cousin Jenny and I grew up with families who traveled together. A lot. As we have grown up, we have continued to travel together with Jen and her husband, Doug. As couples, we enjoyed so many great trips together!! This past weekend was the first time that we traveled together with our little ones! Just carrying on tradition here :)...
We didn't venture too far out on our first experience taking the girls. Claire is 5 months old, and Adelyn of course is 12 months old, and so we decided to take a 4 day trip up to Bayfield, Wisconsin and the Apostle Islands. We. Had. A. BLAST!!!! We rented a 2 bedroom cabin near Bayfield, which ended up being great accommodations for us! Here are the girls hanging out at our cabin:
While of course, traveling was MUCH different than it used to be (lots more things to pack and unload, and taking more time to do things/go places), we still had a ton of fun together. We went on lots of hikes...and of course enjoyed the incredible views of Lake Superior.
(The boys were getting all the attention from the camera because they were holding the cute babies, so we thought we needed a picture of us moms on our first trip together with our kiddo's.)
One of the days, we took a ferry across the lake to Madeline Island, where we got to enjoy a beautiful day and some beach time too!! Adelyn loved playing in the sand...
...And Michael tried his mad skills at a Stand-up paddle board.
He rocked it, being it was only his first time doing it.
Lake Superior was a bit too chilly for me to embrace my adventure side:( I stayed on the beach with Adelyn. Did I mention that we did a bit of hiking?? On Friday, we decided to go on a 4 mile hike to see some sea caves....
And sometimes, when you decide to go on long hikes...you need to improvise when children get hungry:)
But boy did we see some incredible sights!! It was gorgeous!!
On our last day in Bayfield, we decided to check out some of the berry patches that are around town. I think this was one of my favorite things we did! We checked out a very strange (and small) organic berry farm first...it was just odd. We got "flapped" at by this massive turkey (threatening us I think...), and got a glimpse of how an all solar powered/wind powered life would be like. (Not for me...)
Plus, their berries were pretty picked over, so we just bought an already picked carton of organic blueberries and skadaddled our way out of there, onto the next berry farm, which was AWESOME (and huge!!). We got to pick raspberries...
And I think the highlight of Adelyn's whole trip came when we got to pick blueberries (this is definitely her favorite food).
We realized as fast as we were picking them, they were disappearing out of our box!!!! I'm pretty sure my daughter ate about a pound of blueberries until we got smart and went and got another box so that she could have a few in her box, and we could pick some and actually keep them!
Yep! Adelyn sure did enjoy those blueberries!!
After the berry farms (and a winery to end our day), we packed up the cars and headed home. Our first dual-family vacation was a success, and we are already talking about the next one!!! Truly a great weekend with great people!!
